London 2012 transport Problems

Great news! Each ticket sold for the 2012 Olympics in London would be issued with a travel card a day. This seems a really excellent idea, not only that it would have meant not wait ages in a massive queue for a ticket tube, such as smaller queues for tickets would have meant less of a threat to terrorism.

However, it now seems that perhaps there is a u-turn on this subject with LOCOG (the organizer of the 2012 Games) now indicating that it is likely to prove too expensive if they were issuing Oyster cards allowing people to travel around London. They cited cost as the main reason because it is only a temporary event.

However it seems to me that one of the key points in the Olympics is also allow the host city to benefit as much as possible. Costs of issuing cards Oyster would certainly surpassed by the amount of money that the visitors would then spend elsewhere in London? For example if they look at the track in the morning, they can go well and visit another attraction such as the London Eye in the afternoon. With a free subscription and then they are more likely to just go back to their hotel. Or they go and buy a ticket tube, adding to the queues of people waiting to buy their tickets from tube to attend events in the afternoon.

People will then get tired of the queue and return to their hotel instead of this.

How London 2012 manages its transport will be make or break the games in 2012 - if transport system fails on the first day due to the huge queues for tickets tube then I predict by the second day, they have no choice but to open the entire system tube for free during the duration of the game or risk a collapse of public opinion and in the world.

Finally a point view terrorism the last thing that London 2012 must are large groups of people (targets) wait. If you found this article of interest then why not visit the London 2012 News site authors. Examine all aspects of games a refresh, and then join the free Forum 2012.
